Help a person in need. Buy shoes.
Are you familiar with the TOMS concept? Through your purchases, TOMS helps provide shoes, sight, water and safer birth services to people in need.
The story behind the concept
Blake Mycoskie was on a vacation trip in 2006 when he noticed that the local polo players were wearing a form of shoes called alpargatas: a simple canvas slip-on shoe that he himself began to wear. Alpargatas where the model for the original line of TOMS shoes, made of canvas or cotton fabric with rubber soles. When Mycoskie was doing some volunteer work in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, he noticed that many children were running through the streets barefooted. He decided to develop a kind of alpargata for the North American market. Mycoskie ordered 250 pairs of shoes, but received order requests for nine times the available stock online. In the first six months 10,000 pairs were sold. And the first 10,000 pairs were distributed to the Argentine children.
One for OneTM
Since 2013 TOMS has given more than 70 million pairs of new shoes to children in need. To help create and support jobs, TOMS committed to producing one-third of the shoes they give away in those same regions.
The new TOMS spring collection is in store now. Come visit Shoes by Paolo Salotto at Schiphol Plaza and support the concept by buying a pair of new shoes.
